Are you someone who feels the need to wash your hair everyday to have that fresh, washed feeling, but hate how long it takes? Do you ever sit and ask yourself, "I don't get how some people can goes days without washing their hair!?".
Let me let you in on a little secret, we have ALL been there. Who doesn't love a freshly, washed hair? But who has the time, maybe you do? Maybe you have the time to wash your hair and style it everyday, then this blog post isn't for you! BUT if you're one of the many, asking how the heck some girls can go days, well buckle up, grab some popcorn and listen, imma give you some steps to allowing your hair to go days without washing but not drive you crazy!
First, it's going to bug you, I'm going to be honest. Training your hair is like training in the gym, results don't show up right away. You have to teach your hair on what you want it to do. Right now, its used to being washed everyday and having those essential oils stripped, so it's constantly reproducing oil. Oil in our hair isn't just from the environment, our hair produces its own oils with is beneficial to our hair and scalp. They actually help your hair stay hydrated and healthy. So unfortunately when you're shampooing your hair, you're not just removing dirt and bad oils, you're removing the good oils too.
Once you're hair realizes you're not constantly removing oils, it will stop producing so much oil! SCIENCE. But for real, it will be like hay, the oils already here, lets chill out on reproducing more! Now, to help you get through the first weeks of hair training, become friends with dry shampoo. I find, dry shampoo is like a shoe, not all fit the same. You have to find the dry shampoo that's right for you! I personally love the mousse dry shampoo from Milkshake, it's scary at first, putting a mousse on your scalp, but instantly it works and it makes your scalp feel fresh!
What if you get your hair wet in the shower, because, you still do need to shower everyday even if you're not shampooing your hair! (Please) I have the cutest hair cap, its teal with polka dots, go out and buy one so you can shower yet keep your hair nice a dry :). When you're done, find ways to work with your "dirty" hair, google/pintrest has tons of ideas on how to style your hair in different ways. My tips is the first day, style it how you want, curls/straighten whatever! Then usually, the second day, always is the best hair day, right?? it just seems to, work. So you do you. Then, maybe third day do a cute low bun or braided bangs. Fourth day? Slick pony? Experiment, find what works for you!
So you've come to the day where you NEED to shampoo your hair, you've gone 3-4 days, YAY! NOW, let's shampoo! Clarify shampoo your hair first, it will remove all product build up and dirt/oils. Again, shampoo scalp, condition ends. My tip, always shampoo your hair twice, when you shampoo your hair twice the first time removes all the yuck and the second time gives that clean feeling, use a moisturizing/volumizing shampoo next then follow up with your conditioner.
There we go, our guide to not having to wash our hair everyday. If you have any other questions always ask! Hopefully this blog post will help you and it'll give you more time in the mornings to either sleep in that extra 15 minutes, or enjoy a second cup of coffee! Remember, always be patient with your hair, show it love and it'll show you love back. CHEERS!
