So you're getting ready to book your hair appointment, and you see all these lovely hairstyles and colours on Pinterest. You choose the one that stands out, and that you want for your end goal. But you're trying to grow your hair out, or you've had a bad expierence with haircuts in the past, so you pass on booking a cut with your colour, and just book the colour.
If you haven't kept up with your haircut in 8-10 weeks, chances are you def need a trim at least. But what you can't understand is why? Why do you need to trim, why do you need to cut your hair to achieve the look of the colour you want.
Most of the dimension in hair comes from the haircut, not the colour. I know, mind.. blown. But seriously. if we had a full length hair, no layers, nothing.. and we added all these beautiful foils of colour, and colour melted our toner, etc.. but we have no shape, or body to our hair, would you even see all the foils we just put in? No. You'd see the beautiful top layer, and that's it.
When you bring us your inspo pictures off Pinterest, you love the whole look, the placement of the colour with the haircut, we want to create it as best as we can, and haircuts are totally what makes up 50% of the look. You want a lived in colour, with beach waves, we go off the haircut, we highlight or foilayage the pieces that will complement the layering technique that will be done or has been done on your hair to create the full look.
A haircut will totally enhance a colour, more then any technique will. It can add movement and really give the whole colour the full potential its meant to have. I try and always pair a cut with my colours as best as I can, it crushes me when you totally nail a colour, but the ends of the hair are so thin and brittle, or the layering isn't there to really make the colour POP! Our goal as stylists are really to get your hair to the best state of healthiness it can be, we really don't want to chop your whole hair off, but sometimes you're really holding onto dead hair y'all. Also, overall, it will just make your colour look a million times better.
So when you're booking in your next colour service, please give this blog a thought, book that cut too. We want to create the look you are desiring and want the overall look to be amazing. Here's another good point, no one ever brings in a inspo picture of a hair colour that has brittle or thin ends.. right? I know. Nobody goes, oh I love this colour and how dead it looks on the ends.. or how there's no shape and you can't see what's under the first layer. Point is, get the cut, or book the cut first and come for a colour later, trust me, you'll thank me later. It truly is that important for the overall look of what you want to achieve, and who doesn't love healthy, beautiful looking hair?
Til next time my loves!
