Postpartum Hair Loss?? Let Me Help.

When you're pregnant, you get every tip and trick under the sun to help with your new arrival. But, here's a little something no one ever tells you. You might lose some of your hair. Yes, the straight up truth.. you might! Or maybe you're one of the lucky ones who didn't lose your hair, but if you did, this is a blog post for you!

First off, congratulations momma!! Being a mom is one of the most rewarding jobs on the planet. So now that you're baby looks like a fashionista, let's move onto the most important person, YES, YOU! YOU are important, you deserve to feel good and look good. I know there's days where my hair was on the top of my head and I never got ready, and those days are okay. While you're giving your new baby all the love and care, don't forget to give yourself some TLC. Happy mommy, happy baby, right?

Okay, but how do we style our hair, when we have all these... WHISPEY THINGS!? Let me just be clear, this is completely normal to lose your hair after pregnancy. You're not alone! Its important to understand what causes these clumps of hair in your shower to appear, or your vacuum to have more of your hair then the dogs LOL. During your pregnancy your hormone levels make your hair beautiful, thick and shiny. Makes you literally have the all the good hair days. But, once your hormones start to level out post pregnancy, your body will lose all that hair that it grew during pregnancy. (I KNOW, BLEH.) On the daily, usually people lose 80-90 hairs a day, post pregnancy, you lose.. k ready.. 400 hairs a day.. PER DAY.

Okay, now that I've freaked you out, here's some good news, it grows back ya'll. But during the growth stages, we got to find ways to deal with the "whispeys" is what we'll call them. Here's one tip, get a good shampoo and conditioner, during hair loss stages, your hair is going to become really fragile and dry (fun, I know). So you'll want a good shampoo and conditioner to take care of your hair. A good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner will become your best friend.

Invest in a good brush, I really enjoy my Olaf wet brush, yes, I bought the Olaf one, its so cute. But really any wet brush will help while you brush your hair, you don't want to tug at your fragile hair too much or too hard and increase the breakage.

So I know most hair loss is obviously in the front, I don't understand why I couldn't be in the back or like in the middle.. it picks the front, always. Right in plain view.. so what do we do?? Switch your part, I know people are saying "middle part" is the trend, but hay, I love side parts, and if you switch up your side part you might even create some new volume you never had before! Change up your look with the smallest part change! Hide those baby hairs.

Also, chat with your doctor on continuing taking your vitamins, no, not just your adult multi vitamins, but your prenatal vitamins. I personally felt they helped me when I lost my hair during postpartum, and they're filled with all the right nutrients for your hair! If you don't want to continue those, I would suggest biotin, it improves the keratin infrastructure of your hair!

If you're like me, and you like your hair out of your face. Try and not use a really tight hair elastic. You should use a scrunchie (thank goodness they're in style) they're so good for your hair! Or try out some new clips, become that cute mom with really less to zero effort!

There you have it, just a few tips and tricks while you're dealing with your hair loss. Really, don't stress it, it happens, its completely normal. Try and see if as, let's have fun with it, lets change up my look, let's accessorize. Most importantly, still focus on you, I know all the focus right now feels like it should be on your little baby, which normally it is, but don't forget about you! If you want, book an appointment with me in my "Booking" section and we can sit and go over some fun styles, even do a trendy cut to blend in those little hairs!

See you next time! XO
