Hair Masks, Do You Actually Know How to Use Them?

Hair masks, we all get told to use them, "oh you should do a hair mask, oh hair masks will solve the problem". But do you actually know how to exactly use them and what they're doing to your hair? Or do you just throw it on rinse, go?

Hair masks are designed to help the hair when its in some kind of distress. Whether it be, dryness, breakage, frizz or just unmanageable.

There are so many different hair masks in the market, which one do you pick? I personally LOVE the Olaplex N°3 Its designed to restore your hair's healthy appearance and texture by repairing damage and protecting your hair. It completely reduces the chances of breakage and visibly strengthens the hair. Not saying any other treatment isn't great, this is just one of the few I would totally recommend.

So, you now have your at-home treatment, perfect. Now what? Do you know if you shampoo, condition and then treatment? Or just the treatment, on dry hair, wet hair? So many questions. Let me fill you in. So always, shampoo your hair first, shampoo your hair will strip all dirt and oils built up in your hair from everyday things, product & the environment. Always shampoo twice, the first shampoo strips all that yucky stuff out and then the shampoo actually cleans the hair and scalp. THEN, add the treatment, don't condition. If you condition after shampoo, it is sealing the cuticle of the hair, making the treatment useless. It won't absorb into the hair shaft because the conditioner has already sealed it shut. Always replace your conditioner for your hair treatment on the days you are doing them. This will allow the hair cuticle to completely absorb all the things from the treatment into the hair. Follow instructions on the bottle with how long to leave it in for, or do what your stylist has told you to do. Some treatments say they only need 5-10 minutes, but some you can leave on for hours. Always listen to a professional about the time wise, for some treatments can contain a lot of protein, which in the long run, if left on the hair too long or used too much can actually cause breakage. But usually, if its just a moisture treatment, leave it on, let your hair soak it up!

I hope this has helped about hair masks for all of you! If you have any questions, always feel free to ask! There's so many different types of hair masks out there and when sold by a professional you can expect great things! Just make sure you know how to use it and how long to leave it on for :)

Til next time loves, xo
