5 Hair Myths Busted

We often hear things about hair that aren't always true. This blog is going to explain some of the myths I hear constantly from people about hair... and bare with me folks, I'm about to blow your mind on some of these.

MYTH NUMERO UNO: pulling out a grey hair will cause more to grow... FALSE. Pulling out one grey hair will not make the other hair follicles around it turn grey. If you have more than a couple grey hairs, I advise you not to pluck them out because you could cause follicle trauma or bald patches.

MYTH NUMBER TWO: cutting your hair will make it grow faster.. mmm not so much. It will help protect your hair from breakage however, which can lead to your hair appearing shorter. A trim is encouraged by most stylists every 6-8 weeks. But cutting your ends will not magically make your hair start to grow faster, hair grows from your scalp.

MUTH NUMBER THREE: updo's and style require dirty hair... PLEASE NO. I always tell my clients who are getting married, or in a bridal party... PLEASE wash your hair the night before or the morning of. We have product that can texturize your hair to help the curls hold, the updo hold. Oily, dirty hair... does not. Please, wash your hair it'll look much better for your special day.

MYTH NUMBER FOUR: if you have greasy hair, skip conditioner... FALSE. Do not skip conditioning your ends, even if your hair is not dry. Shampoo scalp(sometimes more than once), condition ends. Greasy hair is naturally caused by too much sebum being produced from the tissues of the scalp. I would always suggest a good clarifying shampoo or treatment on the scalp, but always always always, condition your ends. TLC folks.

MYTH NUMBER FIVE: wearing a hat makes you go bald... EL OH EL, gosh no. If you're ever wearing a hat that is tight enough to cut off the circulation in the follicles of your hair, please stop... that's probably where you're headaches are coming from. Hats do not cause you to go bald, that is all genetics. It may cause some damage to the hair with breakage, but it will not cause hair loss.

There you have it folks, some of the myths I hear on the daily about hair. This was kinda fun, did I blow your mind on some or did you already know the real facts? Ask any questions, also I'd love to hear some of the myths you hear about hair, I'll debunk them or give you some insight on how true or false they actually are.

Til next time, xo!
